ProfileThe EITI is a global transparency standard formed in London in June 2003 by 140 delegates from governments, companies, civil society and investors, building on Tony Blair's September 2002 World Summit proposal. It is governed by a multi-stakeholder Board (implementing/supporting-country governments, industry, investors, civil society) and run day-to-day by an International Secretariat headquartered in Oslo, Norway. Implementing countries publish EITI reports reconciling company payments against government receipts from extractives, validated against the EITI Standard. The hub cites country-level EITI reports (DRC, Ghana, Tanzania, Mongolia) as its primary reconciliation-data source. An independent 2023 Chr. Michelsen Institute review found EITI has institutionalised transparency norms but lacks conclusive evidence linking adoption to corruption reduction or development outcomes — a stated, sourced limitation, not a composite verdict.Single source
