Created by Ley 14.771 following the 1958 Farallon Negro agreement between the Province of Catamarca and the Universidad Nacional de Tucuman, with a five-member board. Began operations in 1959, seated in Catamarca; mining at Farallon Negro began in 1978. Since 1997 YMAD has participated in the exploitation of Bajo de la Alumbrera through a Union Transitoria de Empresas with Minera Alumbrera; open-pit mining at Bajo de la Alumbrera ceased in 2018. In 2026 the national government withdrew from YMAD, leaving control with the province and the university. Appears in the SPMTP supplier map for Argentina in 2025 only; THE PLATFORM NAMES NO MINE.
