The Gold Bar Integrity (GBI) programme is a joint initiative of the London Bullion Market Association and the World Gold Council to build an international system for gold bar integrity, chain of custody and provenance. The two bodies announced a pilot phase on 28 March 2022, in which two distributed-ledger companies, aXedras and Peer Ledger, demonstrated technology intended to create an immutable record of a gold bar's place of origin and transaction history. Its stated purpose is to let consumers, investors and market participants establish that a bar is genuine and responsibly sourced.
